Few drummers on the Texas music scene command as much instant recognition as former Electric Crush drummer Danny X. The braided hair and tattoos are as familiar to Texas music lovers as any of the iconic front men or lead guitarists over the past decade. Danny X, or DX, as he’s referred to these days, has been banging the skins throughout the lone star state for bands like the Love Junkies, Electric Crush and Drowning Mona.  Danny’s adventures have taken him on tours across the United States, placed him in some of the finest recording studios in Texas and Los Angeles, as well as the glitz and glamour of Hollywood movie sets. So what does an all-star drummer do for an encore? The show’s not over till the fat lady sings, and DX has more than a few tricks left up his sleeve. MFM catches up to the stick-meister to talk about some of his far flung adventures and to see what the future might have in store.

“It was an exciting, but sobering moment”, recalls former Electric Crush drummer Danny X. Referring to the long awaited national release of ‘STAR TREK: of Gods and Men’, which was slated for release in 2007. Danny and his band, Electric Crush, were chosen to film the official music video for the movie and were asked to come to Los Angeles where they were filming the final scenes. Several members of the band and management made cameo appearances in the movie as well.
“It was kind of spooky… seeing us up there on the big screen with all those legends of the Star Trek universe. At the same time… knowing that band is no longer together. The movie was intended for release in 2007, but didn’t reach the screen until 2009. Two years have passed and nothing is the same these days. It was a special time for all of us, and I always thought we’d be together to see it in the theaters.”

Earlier this Fall. MFM received an email from one of the co-writers, Ethan Calk. Ethan informed us that STAR TREK: of Gods and Men’ was going to be screened in San Antonio and that the long lost, final video of Electric Crush would finally make its premiere. We were all invited to the San Antonio premiere, as were the members of Electric Crush. The co-writers of the movie, Ethan Calk and Jack Trevino were also in attendance and fielded questions from the audience about the movie after the screening.

After the movie, the co-writers shared a story with the audience regarding Electric Crush, their appearances in the movie and their long awaited music video, filmed on the STAR TREK movie sets in Los Angeles. Then, the lights dimmed and we were all treated to the official Electric Crush music video and a second video of the movie set to Electric Crush music. It was amazing. The music videos and movie really captured the essence of STAR TREK through the years.

"I really miss those times, but I'm having a lot of fun with my new band Drowning Mona. We all get along great and we're currently working on some new material... so stay tuned. I'd like to thank the writers, producers, actors, Tristan Barnard, Adam Gaynor and everyone involved in the Star Trek movie. It was a once in a lifetime experience and I wouldn't trade it for the world. Also, I would like to thank all the Electric Crush fans who stayed with us through the years."
