Monster Fashion Summer 2009 - Nicole Watson

HOT: YELLOW the official “it” color of the season is definitely yellow… the shades of yellow, pink, and blue paved the runway from all designers. So add some pop to your wardrobe this summer… bright colors are everywhere and are as prevalent in clothing as they are in accessories.  From bright handbags to dresses, these attention look-at-me colors are everywhere.  So break out of your color comfort zone and have some fun!  If you’re too afraid to break out, the easiest way to go is by trying a bright hand-bag.  If you are going to wear these bright colors pair them with whites for a very fresh look. Stay clear of blacks, they’ll flash you right back into the 80’s.

HOT: SCARFS don’t be afraid to accessorize yourself with an oversized summer scarf, they are no longer needed for winter and can glam your outfit up in less than five minutes flat.  They are popping up in the most flattering shades and patterns, and making outfits stand out in a good way.  This is a trend to definitely try and play around with all season.

HOT: ONE SHOULDER from single-shouldered dresses to tops and bikinis, asymmetric shoulder-lines have made a huge return in 2009. Showing off one-shoulder in a dress can be subtly sexy and interesting on the eye, and the possibilities for how to wear it are numerous.

HOT: BEJEWELED it's not the first time bejeweled pieces have been a hit over the past few years, but in summer they return brighter, bolder, and more elegant. This time around, pieces are not just embellished but often completely encrusted by jewels; the feeling is luxurious, exotic, and yet the glamour remains somewhat understated.

HOT : ANIMAL PRINTS again and again these are sticking around, we both know you think they scream sexy in any way you wear them.  Just stick to basic rules and opt for a top or chic skirt, don’t go for a wild safari look in head to toe zebra.  Exotic leopard print dresses are always safe, but either way they are a definite DO for summer.

NOT:  NEON everyone has their set of colors that fit their skin color and personality, some look good in earth tones, others call pull off bold colors, while most stick to a black and gray palette. But absolutely no one’s complexion is complemented by radioactive neon green; this short lived style is gone for good!

NOT:  TRAPEZE DRESSES forget what you were told about comfort and style, these have neither, and there 60’s inspired look is not in the least bit flattering.  If you are expecting a baby… congratulations! These dresses will suit you fine, if not put on a dress that fits PLEASE!

HOT: SHOULDER LENGTH HAIR hair is a very personal thing so whatever style you like best you should keep.  But you can always change it up a bit if you want.  I have seen a lot of shoulder length bobs and chic bobs since this haircut "suits most face shapes"

HOT: BRIGHT NAILS AND LIPS as the clothes get lighter so will the nails.  Try OPI’s “I’m in the mood for love”, which is a poppy pink.  Brighter lips, blush and eyes should always be a little softer during hot, summer days. Think lightly berry kissed lips or something similar. You need to try and embrace these trends which look great with the beautiful prints in fashion that scream summer .

NOT: BLACK NAILS this of all things I am so sad to see go. I will admit my nails were a deep purple and black all winter.  This trend is done for summer, and light nails are breaking the darkness.  Perhaps it will return next fall, I will be keeping my fingers crossed.
